Funeral Consumers Alliance (FCA) is a non profit organization dedicated to protecting a consumer's right to choose a meaningful
dignified, affordable funeral. Our affiliates are non sectarian, non profit, educational organizations. These organizations were first started
in the late 1930's (known as Memorial Societies) because of two influences: the depression and the increase in cost of funerals due to the use of embalming and more elaborate manufactured caskets.
There are now more than 150 non profit funeral planning groups across the U.S. Many affiliates, with the help of their volunteers,
conduct a price survey of area mortuaries. Some have been able to negotiate a discount at participating funeral homes.
In addition, local membership supports the legislative action by the national office needed to expand and protect a consumer's last rights.
The Funeral Consumers Alliance website
www.funerals.org offers a wide array of helpful information on a variety of topics. Frequently asked
questions include how to get started in planning for you or your family funeral needs.
